Climate Change and Sustainability in Education
The Government launched the Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy in 2022, with the aim for the UK to be the world-leading education sector in sustainability and climate change by 2030.
At Nine Mile Ride Primary School we have already made efforts towards becoming more sustainable and continue to build on this.
Actions we have already taken include:
Renewable Energy and Energy Consumption
We have had solar panels installed onto our school roof which provide us with a renewable source of energy to help power our school.
We also closely monitor energy use and ensure that lights and other electrical appliances are switched off when not in use.
Promote Alternative Transport Methods
We work closely with My Journey Wokingham to promote eco-friendly, active travel to and from school.
We regularly take part in Walk to School Week, Beat the Street and hold Bikeability sessions for Year 6 pupils.
Outdoor Learning
We encourage pupils to connect with nature and develop their knowledge of the natural world around them through our Outdoor Learning sessions.
Pupils are encouraged to respect and look after their natural surroundings and regularly help with litter picking and recycling.
